The country of Uruguay is now on the radar as one of the best wingshooting destinations in South America.  Although it is similar to its neighbor, Argentina, it is also very different in many respects as well.  Uruguay hunting lodges are typically country estancias that have been adapted to host large groups of bird hunters.

Wingshooting in Uruguay is fast becoming just as popular as bird hunting in Argentina, and the lodges are equal in service, sophistication, and style.  Guests from all over the world are consistently pleased with the laid back "Old World" ambience that they find when they are guests at the various hunting lodges in Uruguay.  Many of our clients who have hunted in Argentina for years, now prefer bird hunting in Uruguay instead, or just can't resist the temptation do both-either in the same trip, or in two different trips spread apart over a year.

Uruguay Duck Hunting
Uruguay Duck Hunting Lodges

Duck hunting in Uruguay is now one of the premier waterfowl hunts in South America.  In fact, that is really an understatement; Uruguay duck hunts are some of the very best waterfowl hunting trips in world today.  Limits are liberal, birds are abundant, and the season is opposite of the duck hunting season in North America and Europe.  How many of your friends get to hunt ducks in August?  Make them jealous by leaving them in the heat and coming down for some hot barreled Uruguay waterfowl hunting action, or if you are feeling generous, bring them with you.  One thing is certain, it will be one of the best duck hunting trips that you will ever take-when it comes to harvesting ducks in large numbers, this country delivers.

Dove Hunting in Uruguay

What if you were told that you could experience the same kind of high volume dove hunting found in Cordoba Argentina, just across the border in Uruguay, a country that was formerly a province of Argentina hundreds of years ago?  Let us be the first (or the third, fourth, etc.) to let you know that you can!  Uruguay dove hunting is the real deal, and it can be enjoyed from one of several Uruguay hunting lodges operated by Los Gauchos Outfitters.  The hunting seasons in Uruguay are long, and the limits are generous-so generous in fact, that there are no limits placed on the number of dove that a hunter can shoot.  The limit is your endurance, and your success is guaranteed!  For example, there will be birds flying within shooting range from the time you get into the field until the time you leave it.  Before you can get a second cartridge in your gun, another shot opportunity will present itself.  Book a Uruguay dove hunt, and experience the action that Argentina dove hunting possesses, while enjoying the unique customs, culture, and flavor that Uruguay has to offer.

Pigeon Hunting

Uruguay has fantastic pigeon shooting, a challenging and unique wingshooting experience that will put your shotgunning skills to the ultimate test.  A Uruguay pigeon hunt can be added to your bird hunting trip to Uruguay in the form of a combination, or as an extra day of shooting.  Uruguay pigeons fly hard and fast for a few hours in the morning when they leave their roosting areas and fly to the crop fields to feed for the day.

Pigeon hunting in Uruguay is best conducted by setting up between the roost and the feeding zones with a decoy spread consisting of static decoys on ten foot metal stakes, and an array of Mojo doves spread around the edges.  The birds cannot resist the sight of other birds feeding in areas closer to the roost than their originally scheduled destination, so they decoy in with passion.

Once fired upon, they Spot-wing and Picazuro pigeons in Uruguay will put on an impressive aerobatic display.  They will weave, bank, and dart in all directions, keeping The Guns guessing.  It takes lighting-fast reflexes to consistently put birds on the ground, and many a Master Class clay shooter have left the blind cursing and second guessing their shooting, because no artificial target can duplicate the challenge of decoyed pigeon shooting.

Perdiz Hunting in Uruguay

The best Perdiz hunting in South America can be found in Uruguay.  Although the Tinamou (another name for Perdiz), can be found in grassy pastures throughout the nation, they are most highly concentrated in the western portion of the country.  It is there where Uruguay wingshooting for the elusive Perdiz is most famous and productive.  7 and 8 shot easily bring down the Perdiz, and any caliber of shotgun can get the job done.  Our recommendation is to bring whichever shotgun you will be comfortable carrying for two hours, because the limit of ten birds will be easily reached by that point.

The only thing you will enjoy more than upland bird hunting in Uruguay is having them for dinner.  The delicious white meat tastes very similar to quail, and will be prepared each evening as an appetizer, or an entrée.

The Perdiz hunting season in Uruguay begins in May and ends July 31st.  You will be wise to make your reservations with your Uruguay bird hunting lodge early if you wish to hunt Perdiz, because these are the first dates to sell out, since it is the only hunting season in Uruguay that could be considered "brief"-90 days all told.
